Open exclusively to foreigners, the beachfront nudist-only hotel opens on May 1 near the major southwestern resort of Marmaris, a small revolution in Turkey’s conservative society, Milliyet newspaper reported.

“Nudism is allowed inside the hotel premises, but not on the nearby public beaches,” Ahmet Cosar, bookings manager at the Adaburnu-Golmar hotel, told the newspaper.

For guests who are determined to shun bathing suits, the hotel will provide a shuttle bus to and from a private naturist beach.

On his list: Porn star-themed party. Sex and marijuana at the community pool. Swinger guests.

Name and address for the record? Richard Klos, a resident of Caliente Resorts, a clothing-optional resort and residential community in Land O’ Lakes.

“I really do believe this’ll be a national story,” Klos told commissioners. “This is the first time a major resort is being dedicated strictly to sex.”

Complaints by nudist homeowners about sexually themed parties sullying Caliente’s reputation are nothing new. Back in 2008, some residents began complaining about the resort events, some of which were put on by outside “lifestyle” or swingers groups, with the blessing of Caliente.

American Association for Nude Recreation suspended Caliente’s membership charter, and the resort later pulled its affiliation.

And the parties — from “Naughty School Girl Camp” to “Sinful Seduction” — have continued.

Klos provided commissioners with spiral-bound notebooks filled with Caliente’s sexually-themed advertisements, which included an anonymous critic’s annotations: “Caliente will even trash Mother’s Day.” “Read all about Caliente’s Porn Picnic.” “What is she doing to herself?”

Pasco County had already sued Club Elite, a swingers club on U.S. 19 near Port Richey, on a zoning issue (sexually oriented businesses can only operate in industrially-zoned areas), and Klos wondered: Why not do the same thing here?

Assistant County Attorney Kristi Wooden, who has met with residents, said she needed admissible evidence before she could determine the events met the very specific definition of a sexually oriented business.

Club Elite, by contrast, was determined to be a sexually oriented business because guests pay for admission (through a membership fee) and there were sexually explicit performances that were witnessed by authorities, she said.

In other words, enforcement is tricky in a place where nearly everybody is nude.

“We have difficulty (differentiating) between performance and nudity,” said Lee Millard, assistant zoning administrator.

Wooden added the county has no authority over what kind of marketing materials the resort puts out.

“A zoning action is not going to dictate that they stop marketing to swingers,” she said.

And for its part, Caliente’s management says there’s nothing for anybody to see.

Deb Bowen, Caliente spokeswoman, said the resort has strict policies at community property, including the swimming pool, and enforces it.

“Any antics were exposed and stopped immediately,” she said.

She added that the former events organizer, Angye Fox, who left the resort last month, may have taken the marketing a little far. “That’s why you have a staff who can reel it back in,” she said.

But she made no apologies for the more explicit tone in the type of events the resort is conducting. The idea, she said, is to attract a younger generation.

“There is a huge difference between being sexy and being sexual,” she said. “Unfortunately, some of our older clientele can’t tell the difference.”

She said if swingers show up at the events, that’s a by-product. “They’re the same group who go to the Holiday Inn on the weekend,” she said.

Commissioners on Tuesday did not have a whole lot to say about it. Commissioner Michael Cox told Klos he felt bad for the residents and suggested they may have a civil case.

“They were sold something they’re not getting,” he said.

Chairwoman Pat Mulieri, whose district includes the nudist resorts, said she, too, sympathized with homeowners in that upscale community.

“What do we tell those residents?” she asked.

“Hire a lawyer,” said Commissioner Ted Schrader.

The American Association for Nude Recreation sent out a press release commenting on the fee hike – and suggesting that passengers stick it to the airlines in 2010 by taking a vacation to a nudist resort.

“All you’ll need for the week (sunscreen, cap, sunglasses, shoes and toiletries) can fit in a small carry on,” said Erich Schuttauf, executive director of the organization. “If more air travelers take a stand and a Nakation in 2010, it could send a message to the airlines using baggage fees as a way to get more money from their passengers.”

Kudos to Orlando marketing firm Ypartnership, which represents the American Association for Nude Recreation, for a creative take on the news of the day.

Inspired by famous nudist photographer Spencer Tunick, Chilean Rene Rojas plans to replicate Tunick’s photographs across several cities in Chile.

Rojas — one of the producers of Tunick’s event in June 2002 which saw more than five thousand people pose naked in Park Forestal in Santiago — aims to do the same but with a national intention.

The events will take place in Santiago, Valparaiso, Concepcion, Iquique, and will begin in Horcon, home to Playa Luna; the only place where nudism can be legally practiced in Chile.

Rojas, along with four other photographers, will shoot the first photograph in Horcon at 12 noon on January 30. The shot is expected to take five minutes.

Rojas said the events are a celebration of freedom. “It’s 200 years of independence and this is the highest expression of freedom, a celebration, a feast”, he said.

The “Naked bicentennial” is scheduled to end in December, 2010, with an exhibition of photographs from the five events in various galleries.

By the time it pulled into the West End station at 3:02, Max Kuhl and his three friends had pulled their pants off.

So had Ashley Ross and Zach Mayer, right down to their skivvies and to the wide-eyed looks of fellow passengers who had no idea they’d boarded a train bound for shock humor.

In all, about 70 people – mostly in their 20s but plenty older and younger than that, too – rode DART sans pants Sunday afternoon.

According to organizers Brian Alguire and Chris Linville, it was the first time Dallas has taken part what has become a national event.

Why they did it was hard to say.

“Why not? I didn’t have anything better to do today,” Alguire said.

And it did turn out to be quite a trip.

Gathering in the sunshine beside the frozen fountain at Ferris Plaza in Dallas, the riders got their instructions.

Get on the train, act normal, nonchalant. Then drop your drawers and go on as if nothing unusual had happened.

But even before they got near a train, much less had their pants off, the crowd had drawn some attention.

A Dallas Area Rapid Transit police cruiser was parked and waiting in front of Union Station. On the platform, an officer warned people that taking their pants off was against the law.

“It’s considered disorderly conduct. You can go to jail or you can be cited,” he said.

Undaunted and eager to undress, the group separated onto different trains – the Red Line into Plano and the Blue Line into Garland.

So heading north and northeast, they rode.

But it wasn’t a ride without its hiccups.

Seconds after Kuhl, Ross and Mayer had their pants down, a woman riding with her pants very much on said she was calling the police.

Mark Kaplan, who was the one issuing directions, perhaps because he is a little older, told everyone without pants to pack up and hop off at the Akard Station.

Standing on the platform lined up in everything from racy, lacey briefs to plain old boxer shorts, it was a cold 15-minute wait for the next Blue Line run.

Ross, 19, had anticipated the chill even before she boarded the train.

“I’m a lifelong nudist. I usually stay in a warm place when being nude, though,” she said.

Once aboard and going again, it was mostly a smooth ride.

The group got a few looks and a few laughs. For the most part, though, people went about their business, pants or no pants. DART spokesman Morgan Lyons said no one was ticketed or arrested.

No one really even took notice when the sweet, serious and automated voice of DART rail announced again and again that riders should “beware of suspicious activity and unattended packages.”

Pressed for their opinion, those not in on the joke took it differently.

Osa Eke said it wasn’t a big deal, even though it was pretty funny.

“As long as it’s not too much, it’s fine. No one is affected,” he said.

Lusinda Kureir saw it much differently. She immigrated to the U.S. from Sri Lanka 10 years ago in hopes of better things.

Young people taking their pants off on a train didn’t fit well into her vision of life here.

“This is a good country. Why you do without clothes?” she asked.

The apparent answer was for a laugh. But the truer answer might have been just because it’s there.

As a 19-year old who gave his name only as “Pitts” said, it made for an interesting afternoon.

“I was on my way home from church, and I heard about it on the bus. It sounded like something to do,” he said.

Amorosi once visited Byron Bay with her sister and ended up on a nudist beach.

“My sister is a real prude so it was really hilarious,” said Amorosi.

“She was sitting there saying `Oh my god, Vanessa that guy is naked. Oh my god, that’s his doodle’.

“She turned to me and said `do you think we should take our clothes off because everyone is staring at us?’.

“I said ‘yeah it’s part of the rules that when you step on to the nudist beach you can’t have any clothes on so if we don’t do it, we’ll probably get in trouble.”

Amorosi said they didn’t end up stripping but that is all her sister talks about when Queensland is brought up in conversation.

“I am going to take her back there when we come here together again,” Amorosi laughed.

“But I certainly won’t be going there on my own.”

Erick Williamson, 29, continues to believe that he has done nothing wrong and that he did not purposely expose himself to two women and a seven-year-old boy who had walked past his house on the morning of October 19.

He immediately appealed against his conviction.

A seven-person jury will rule on the propriety of Williamson’s domestic nudity in February.

”That’s outrageous,” he said, after the verdict. ”It’s unbelievable.”

He said publicity from the arrest had cost him a job as a commercial diver. ”I’m the victim,” he said.

Testimony in the hour-long trial before District Court Judge Ian O’Flaherty revealed two separate incidents of alleged exposure had occurred over a two-hour period.

Williamson denied standing naked in his doorway or front window and said he had no intent to expose himself to anyone.

But Judge O’Flaherty likened Williamson to bank robber John Dillinger, who also ”thought he was doing nothing wrong when he walked into banks and shot them up”.

The incidents occurred at Williamson’s rented townhouse in Fairfax, Virginia.

Williamson testified that his four flatmates had left the house at 5.10am.

He said he had been up all night packing, preparing to move out of the townhouse. Because he had the place to himself, he said, he walked to the kitchen sans garments.

”Personal freedom,” Williamson said, explaining his nudity. ”It’s very liberating.”

He said he never stood in front of the open doorway or the window, was merely going about his morning business and didn’t intend to expose himself.

Williamson’s lawyer argued that ”nudity in one’s home is not a crime. Under the circumstances of this case, a person who is careless, who should have drawn the blinds and didn’t, that is not criminal behaviour. If you’re in a private place and take your clothes off, you have not committed a crime.”

Judge O’Flaherty responded: ”What if you’re in a private place and standing in front of a big plate glass window?”

Judge O’Flaherty sentenced him to 180 days in jail, suspended for one year.

He imposed no fine, just court costs of about $US72, which Williamson didn’t have to pay because he appealed.

According to Wesh 2 News, nude cruising in Florida may be launching in the near future. Some may argue that any future would be too soon. The economy is said to have something to do with it. One would think that an all-inclusive cruise would be considered before a literal rendition of the famous Kenny Chesney song, “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem,” became a reality.

Nudists can appear at many beaches, including Haulover Beach in Miami, and campsites in the U.S. Although many cruise lines offer “top-optional” sun decks, no cruise line has gone threadbare.

Although no set plans to launch a nude cruise line exist as of today, it may be in the near future.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Council is determined to kick nudists off the beach due to antisocial behaviour, inadequate public facilities and poor access.

Shire sustainable environment director Alex Atkins confirmed the shire had pushed the State Government for a review.

“Over a number of years the shire has certainly had issues with behaviour and we’ve made representations to the State Government that it would be time for a review,” Mr Atkins said.

He said the review should consider Victoria’s four nudist beaches and it was not the shire’s role to do it.

But Planning Minister Justin Madden’s office said the council had to do the consultation if it wanted a review.

The minister’s spokeswoman, Peta Duke, said Mr Madden was aware of the council concerns.

She said a former planning minister requested more information in 2006 and Mr Madden re-issued the request in February.

Mornington state Liberal MP David Morris told Parliament recently that Mr Madden should immediately initiate a review of the beach’s status.

Mr Morris said a “real culture of antisocial behaviour” had developed in the adjacent carpark, including flashings and lewd acts in the public toilets.

“All of these issues make its current use entirely inappropriate.”

The government declared Sunnyside a legal nudist beach in 1986.

Nudist Association of Victoria president Werner Jacob said members would fight moves to change Sunnyside’s status.

“It’s very important because it’s the only one on that side of the bay,” he said.
